Welcome!
This is the 21st year the AAUW Ashland Branch has celebrated the dedication, achievements and exciting potential of local women students by giving scholarships.
As it says in our mission “ AAUW advances equity for women and girls through advocacy, education, philanthropy, and research.”
This year we’re proud to announce we awarded $33,000 in scholarships to 8 women attending Southern Oregon University (SOU) and 6 to women attending Rogue Community College (RCC). This is our largest annual number of scholarships in number of students as well as the largest dollar amount. In addition we gave $1300 in scholarships to two young women to attend the National Conference for College Women Student Leaders (NCCWSL) in Washington, D.C. in June!
Our Scholarship Chair, Wanda Chin put it so eloquently in her welcoming speech:
“We celebrate – our local women scholars, their persistence and journey of accomplishment and imagination.
We empower – through AAUW’s commitment to support higher education for women, along with the work towards equity in legislation and the workplace; government and community leadership; women have a way forward.
We persist – AAUW Ashland Branch has supported a diversity of women scholars in our local community for more than 20 years. Now more than ever, our women in local communities need us.
We join with our colleges, SOU and RCC, to select remarkable women. Our Scholarship Committee reviews applicants based on a combination of factors including grade point average, financial need, and service to the community and/or to her school.
We believe when women support the goals, success, and dreams of other women, we put into motion an unstoppable, positive force that benefits the community we share.
We thank you for joining us in celebrating these deserving and inspiring women.”
